Owlcrate Bookends DIY

These bookends were included in my June 2019 Owlcrate box. They are Narnia inspired and I decided to change them up a bit. My house is naturally dark living in the woods and all and the placement of my windows SUCK, I wanted these babies to stand out.

My hubby works in fabrication/ construction and he has learned a thing or two over the years. I told him I wanted to paint them white. he was against it of course, but seeing as I bought the box with my own money, I just needed his hand with the sanding part to get the already glossy shine off.

When he got through sanding them, I thought he had ruined them, but he assured me that the paint would stick and look great.

This is with one coat of paint. We had to go back over it once or twice on the bottoms and back sides. I love them and they totally bring out the Narnia inspiration.

I immediately shared it on my Instagram page for the June box photo challenge in hopes of winning a free box, but sadly I didn't but I did get a great shout out in the Owlcrate Instagram stories.

DIY Chalkboard Wall

Cayce has been wanting to make the girls a chalkboard wall since the beginning of this year, and we finally had the time to do it. I was hesitant at first at the idea. He wanted to use the wall between Adalyn's room and their bathroom and make it floor to ceiling. We ended up agreeing and getting the paint and supplies one night while we were out shopping.

The girls helped him during the school day and I have mentioned that in last week's recap. They helped lay the painter's tape, measure the wood for the top and bottom and of course paint.

Originally, Cayce was going to put the board in the middle, so I could have the top half and the girls could have the bottom half, but ended up making it one big section.

 He painted the wall into the two sections, but then removed the board as a last minute decision.

The painting begins. The paint we used was Devine Color Chalkboard from Target. We got the pan and other tools from Target.

Cayce made his first mistake at not covering the ceiling and got a big swatch on the ceiling. 

we let the top dry for a little while before we started the bottom half, hence why it looks crappy.

Going over the whole thing

Now it was time to decide on the trim color. We didn't want to leave the panels brown, we wanted a little color. We had to choose between blue, red and green, and the girls decided to choose red, so now the whole wall is Georgia colors. 

They bought the red paint from the local hardware store and I don't remember the name of it. Yes, Cayce decided to paint on top of our old washing machine. I can;t wait to be rid of that thing. 

He still has to go back over the trim with another coat because we can see the brown through the red and we have been getting a lot of uses out of the wall so far. It is great but when Addy gets a hold of it and starts erasing everything, it's really messy.
