Today is My Hubby's Birthday// Sunday Post #32

Happy Birthday to my hubby Cayce. He turns 32 today, so halfway to 64...lol. I started the little joke when he turned 25 that he was halfway to 50 and it's routine like birthday spankings, but then he always likes to remind me that I am not that far behind. Last week was the first full week of our summer break and it was very chill and it flew very fast. We had to spend the majority of it inside because of the constant rain, but we all got some reading done and my girls played their video games. I also had babysitting duty on Friday for one of our friends who had to go in to work and she had no one to watch her 3 and 4 year olds, so I had 5 kids under my care and I was exhausted. Thankfully my 13 year old played with them and the 3 year old was obsessed with her. 

Today for my hubby's birthday we are going to grill some steaks and corn on the cob and make our famous homestyle mac and cheese which all of our friends and family request during dinners and holidays. We are going to swim in our new pool and probably have a movie night with some online GTA 5 gaming. I am also hoping to finish my current read which is The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea by Axie Oh. I am reading it on my kindle and I am only a quarter of the way through and I am enjoying the hell out of it. 

What are ya'lls plans for this memorial day weekend? We are planning on grilling again but whole chickens and have another full day of swimming. That is mainly our summer plans every year. Grilling and swimming.

I only got one book out from the library this week. It is a cute graphic novel that I have been hearing such good things about and that would make me cry.

Review: The 4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss

 

I first saw this book on Amazon back in 2014 and always kept the title in the back of my mind. It says that anyone can do a 4 hour work week, including stay at home moms, but when I started reading this it was geared towards office people and entrepreneurs. He doesn't give clear cut answers to how to do it obviously and when you think about it it's not really New Rich, it's just same rich.

this book is not what i thought it would be at all. the author is just constantly saying don't check your email and meetings suck.

the story my outsourced life by aj jacobs was truly disgusting. the douche outsourced everything even his feelings and had his "Bangladore" assistants pull their own hair and when he would start stressing he would remember that his assistants were doing that for him and then he be fine

not what i was expecting.. let me just save you the time and energy and let me tell you how to get a 4 hour work week.

1. DO NOT CHECK YOUR EMAIL!!!!!

2. Outsource everything and I MEAN EVERYTHING, from actually doing work to having a meaningful conversation with your children, have someone else do it for a small amount of money while you pocket the rest.

3. BE AN ASSHOLE!

The past week I have been chilling and enjoying the beginning of our summer break. I am still reading We Are The Song out loud to my kids and I have to say that I am creeping through it. It is not a fun read aloud. Maybe it is because I am still recovering from the flu and have a persistent cough and really want to hack up a lung and my vocal cords. But my kids are enjoying it and right now I will do whatever their little hearts desire.

I finished two books today. One that I was reading last week and a graphic novel that I read through today. I also got through another volume of Heartstopper.

I still have a stack of library books due back soon, but I really want to read one of my owned books and i am going to be picking up an e-book. A book that is actually on my May TBR! 

The library books I am hoping to also read this week are...

My 13 year old is rushing me to read this because she has been watching the show and is almost done with the second season.

This is my first #5onmytbr and it was very difficult to chose just 5 to put on this list. I have been seeing this meme going around for the past few months and it looked fun. I am hoping to keep up with it.

Review: Heartstopper Volume 1 & 2 by Alice Oseman

 

I found out the week before the show came out that this was being adapted and I immediately requested the books from my library and the hype is real. I am not going to go into much detail about the syniopsis because I feel that everyone and their mothers know about this series and how it is about two boys who become friends and start a relationship.

To be honest, I did give this a 5 star at the time of finishing, but I have since dropped my rating to a 4 star because I realize that in the moment, this is cute, fluffy and pulls at your heartstrings but it just didn't stick with me as I have forgotten mostly what has happened. I remember the sexual harrassment that Charlie endures from the guy he is seeing and that Nick befriends Charlie and invites him to try out for the rugby team. Also Nick has the best doggo named Nellie who could rival my dog for cuteness. 

I loved how volume 2 just picked up where volume 1 left off, and it did hurt my heart to see Charlie crying over the events in the first book. My mama heart just wanted to smother him with cuddles and give him the love he is so desperately wanting. I wanted to be angry with Nick for how he did Charlie but his confusion over his own identity was just as sad and the fact that he had to look up bisexuality and couldn't go to anyone to talk and get one on one was jarring. 

I did feel like Charlie was a little too cutesy at times and it was really cringy and I definitely had some second hand embarassment. I love how he acted when he got the picture of them in the snow with Nellie. That has to be my favorite part and also the journal entries at the very end took me down memory lane of when me and my husband started dating in high school and I wrote in my diary every day. I still have it and once again I do get a cringe when I read it. 

I will be watching the show soon as I know that the first season covers the first two volumes but I also need to read the third volume before Monday because it is due back to my library and sadly my little hick county has one copy to share between 7 libraries and there are like 50 holds on them. 

Review: Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie

 

Third book completed for my Agatha Christie reading challenge and I am having the most fun. I remember having to read And Then There Were None in my 7th grade language arts class and I failed because I hated the dialect and that is what we were studying at the time which now, I have no problem with. This is the second book in the Hercule Poirot series and I have to say that so far, I like the Tommy and Tuppence series more in book form, but adaptation wise, I like the Hercule Poirot series.

The one thing that I associate with Hercule Poirot is his constant saying of Little Grey Cells which means his brain. It is so annoying, yet I look forward to it. In this installment, Poirot is summoned to a estate in France by a man who thinks his life is in danger and he wants Poirot to come investigate. Poirot arrives in France with his friend Captain Hastings who annoyed the living hell out of me. I was so disgusted by his behavior and how he acted towards the two women. His relationship with the one woman was so insta love and then the other he considered the most beautiful woman and he was so in love with her. He also treated Poirot like shit and the part where he defended one of the women and stopped Poirot was very slap in the face, shit on the friendship. 

The book did lag once again where Poirot just kept talking in circles and never got to the point when revealing who done it and why. It seems that when it gets to that part, I know that I am going to be annoyed and want to skim. 

The next book that I have to read in the Agatha Christie reading challenge is the first book in the Colonel Race series. I do have my hesitations about starting another series, but I will be taking a small break, so I don't burn out from the challenge.

WWW Wednesday #11

I am currently reading two books. One book I started today and it is a nonfiction and due back to the library next week. I am hoping that it will be a quick read and not so complex but easy enough to understand. The other is my read aloud to my kids, but our last day of school was on Monday, so I figure that they won't want to sit still and listen to me read when they rather do something else. 

I have finished four books since my last WWW Wednesday and I am thrilled about it. It is the motivation I need to continue reading. 

I am in the middle of watching the first season and I am LOVING it! I am enjoying it more than the book, which is a trend with me this year that I am enjoying the adaptations more than the book and I am not mad about it. 

I am in a crisis at this moment because I have my May TBR but since finishing Outlander, I just want to read the second book ASAP so I can immediately go to the second season of the show when I finish the first. But I have a stack of library books that are due back soon and like I have said in previous posts is that I hate sending books back unread to the library. It feels like such a waste.
