July Wrap Up

July has went by so fast. I am not ready for the new school year to start next month. I have had a shitty mood all this month. It has rained so much that I have only gotten to enjoy the pool twice and I am not happy. I only got through 6 books this month. It bums me out that two book that I had on this months and last months TBR will once again be on my August TBR. I enjoyed some of these books that I read this month, but I didn't enjoy the reading time.

Last Polyvore Sets #24-26

Polyvore is no more. It has been like that for the past couple months. The website got sold or acquired by someone else and it totally got re-vamped. No more sets. I got to download the sets I made before they went away forever, so I am going to show you three. This post will not have links. That is the worst thing and if you click on any of the links in my previous Polyvore posts, they will direct you to the new site which is not great in my opinion.

Review: When Through Deep Waters by Rachelle Dekker

TRIGGER WARNINGS: Cutting. Rape. Incest. Mental Illness. Eating Disorder.

I am giving this book a two out of five stars. This book made me angry and made me cry. I wanted to DNF after the first chapter. We meet the main character Alicen in her home and she is thinking how she can't wait to fit into her new little black dress from Marc Jacobs that she had to "literally" starve herself for and the only calories she is allowing her self to have is wine.

She has mother issues and in the first chapter we see her as a shitty mother herself. She goes to take a phone call from her mother while her daughter, who is 5 years old wants to have her mother's attention and the last thing she ever hears from her daughter is that when she grows up, she wants to be a mermaid. Alicen tells her daughter that mermaids aren't real and leaves her alone in the pool while she goes to talk to her mother. Her daughter drowns and 4 months later, she is on the way back to her home state of Montana to recover from the loss of her daughter.

This woman should have gone to jail. I hate that she got a jail free card and was pictured as a person who has mental health issues and family issues and the end is supposed to be her redemption because she is saved from her sins.

Needless to say I hated this book. There were no trigger warnings for me and I was not in the right mind set to read this. This book is just AWFUL!!!

OWLCRATE: APRIL 2018, MAY 2018, AND JUNE 2018

I have bought three Owlcrate Jr boxes back to back and the girls have had one each and I am continuing my subscription. They love these boxes and I love filming our un-boxings and sharing them on my YouTube channel.

APRIL 2018: Myth & Might
I bought this as a past box and gave it to Sammy because it was her birthday month box.

MAY 2018: Monster Mash
This was the first box that I actually subscribed to and it went to Ariana. The reason I decided to subscribe was because of one item that came with this box. It was a Goosebumps item and I loved Goosebumps as a kid and the girls love the movie.

JUNE 2018: Hidden Gems
This was Addy's first box and the day we got it, we immediately filmed our un-boxing. The other two, I opened and we looked at the contents before filming so I didn't get our first reactions, but Addy's video is my most viewed video because I was the first to upload an unboxing. I will continue to do that.

Review: Gilded Cage by Vic James

Samantha's second Litpick Review book came in a couple weeks ago and it is Tarnished City by Vic James and I didn't realize it was second in a series. So, I picked this book up real quick from the library and gave Sammy a re-captains like review on the characters and what happened in this on, since she is kind of on a dead line to read the second book.

This book is about the Hadley family who live in Great Britain and they are starting their slave days. Slave days last for 10 years and you have to do it if you want to be a complete citizen and hold certain jobs. The family plans for all of them to go to the head Equals house to complete their 10 years. Equals are the aristocrats who have magical abilities and are basically Untouchable. When the family gets picked up, only 4 are going to the palace and find out that Luke got transferred to Millmoor, the harshest slave town.

The chapters are told in multiple POV's and it was confusing keeping the Jardine brothers separate. The prologue is also kind of annoying. We are told right away that Silyen fathered a baby with a slave girl and then shoots her. We learn her name and she is mentioned throughout the book as slave girl. If you give someone a name, use it. There wasn't anything else about her that she died in a "hunting" accident and that is repeated several times.

Overall, I gave this a 4 out of 5 stars. I took a star away because Luke and his older sister Abi were coming up with these plans on escaping and there thought processes were just dumb as hell. They completely forgot that their trackers were still in their arms and that they could hitch a ride and get help because of their age.

July TBR

My TBR for the month is not as ambitious as last month and I have a couple books from last month's TBR on here that I really want to get to. As of writing this, I have finished the first two books, so I am off to a great start. I am not going to push myself to read this month because we will be starting our school year next month and I want to give the girls as much fun time as I can and enjoy the pool and water slide and go on little trips. 

June Wrap Up

This was not a great reading month for me. I started the month in a slump. The first two books that I read this month, I gave low ratings because I was just not into the stories and thought they were pointless. I will have to give The Ocean At The End of The Lane another try in the future, but on audio book.

So, only 6 books for the month of June. I have realized that even though I intend to read a lot during the summer, I just don't and it's usually slumpy.
