About Graci:

Graci Kim is a Korean-Kiwi diplomat turned author who writes about the magic she wants to see in the world. The Last Fallen Star is her middle grade debut. In a previous life she used to be a cooking show host, and she once ran a business that turned children's drawings into plushies. SUNDAY POST #1

 

My first post for the Sunday Post Meme hosted by the Caffeinated Reviewer. i have been looking for new ways to interact with the book blogging community and I have been loving all of the new blogs that I have discovered due to blog memes and link ups. If you are new to my blog, I would love a follow.

This week was our first full week of summer break. My kids and I relaxed all week because this school year was more taxing. We are a full time homeschooling family, and with everything closed and no way to go on field trips safely, this year was more exhausting and personalities were grown. I was also recovering from side effects of my 2nd dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. My arm got swollen and was itchy like crazy. And finally for my rambling, yesterday was my husband's 31st birthday and we had his best friend and cousin over for a cookout.

Blog tag time. I love doing book tags over on my YouTube channel and I came across some new blogs over the weekend that had some that I will be doing in the coming months. I found this tag over at Read At Midnight. If you have not started following my blog, click the button on the left hand side so you don't miss my upcoming posts. 

1. How long have you been a blogger? 

* I have been blogging since July 2012. It started out as a mommy, home life blog. 

2. When do you think you'll stop blogging?

* To be honest, I feel burnout every year and it has taken a back burner quite a lot. I thought about quitting at the end of last year, but found new ways to interact with other blogs and I may eventually go back into home life as well.

3. What is the best thing about blogging?

*Chatting with other people during linkups and weekly posts and also being able to look back on posts from the very beginning. 

4.  What is the worst thing about blogging?

* The burnout and lack of creativity after years of building your own little corner of the internet.

5. Who is your book crush?

*Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games

6. What author would you love to have on your blog?

* I am too intimidated to ask an author to have on my blog.

7.  What do you wear when you write your blog posts?

*I don't have a set schedule when I write posts. I could be in jeans and a tee shirt, or sweat pants or pajamas.

8. How long does it take you to prepare a post?

* When I have an idea for a post, I start a new post and put the title and set my date and labels, add pictures and I will save that and get back to it at a later date if it's a review. So a couple of days to a week.

9. How do you feel about the book blogger community?

* I love the book blogging community. I found them when I first started doing blog tours and then I found weekly memes and it is great. I love the daily and weekly emails because I find amazing tags, books I have never heard of. Especially book bloggers in different countries.

10. What do you think one should do to get a successful blog?

* I think networking is key. Constantly commenting on others posts and sharing on all your socials. 

Review: With These Wicked walls by Lauren Blackwood

 

Thanks to NetGalley for the E-ARC of this and giving me the opportunity to provide my thoughts and opinions and absolute love for this amazing retelling. This book is a debut and it is going to be released on November 9, 2021. This is an Ethiopian inspired Jane Eyre retelling.

Our main characters name is Andromeda, Andi for short and she is a new practicing debtera. A debtera is a exorcist and she has left her childhood home to find a patronage so she wont have to have a license in the future to work more exorcism jobs. She gets to the home of a white man who is heir to a chocolate empire. She meets the head house keeper and the rest of the staff and she learns the rules. She has to abide by a 10PM curfew which she immediately breaks the first night and regrets it instantly. 

I ended up giving this book a 5 out of 5 stars because it was very creepy and so atmospheric. I felt transported to this hell hole and the characters felt so real. I was annoyed by the constant back and forth between Magnus and Andi with should they be together or not. I wish there were more of the country setting included. It briefly mentions that Ethiopia allowed slavery and that basically it. It doesn't mention town names or history. The word colonizer is used towards Magnus.

If author Fenyx Blue actually had a tattoo, it would be a heart. Ms. Blue has written every book with love. Blue is a teacher, coach, mentor, and motivational speaker focused on women and youth empowerment. She has written a young adult novel about bullying entitled Who Failed Johnny?, a poetry book about purpose named The Blue Ink Movement, and a children's book about the power of a solid father daughter relationship called Worth the Weight.

Fenyx believes in service to the community.
