I have had this book on my shelves since it came out and I got this by accident. When I received this bok, I was doing the blogging for books program and I got sent this one by mistake and was never in the mood for it. I had just read Ready Player One and it was good, but I just didn't want to pick this one up but I had a little interest to never get rid of it.
Doing a year long reading challenge this year for Book Roast's magical readathon adventure, February's prompt that I chose was a tree on the cover. I barely have any books that have trees on the cover and I decided why not. I completely forgot what this was about and I was in the beginning of a reading slump because the few previous books I had read were boring and too long. I read the synopsis and finding out it is about gaming, I was dreading it. But surprisingly I really enjoyed it despite the fact that it took me 2 weeks to read this. It is no fault of the book, just not having time, being sick and other things that take priority.
Anyways this book is about a rich boy named Simon who loves his gigantic ass nose that he inherited from his gangster grandpa who is now sleeping with the fishes. He is a break the rules kind of guy who has a criminal record for hacking which he didn;t do but copped up to just to have the guy who did it to be at Simons every beck and call.
He buys this really expensive headgear for a new virtual reality game called Otherworld and he is in there to try to get back into a friendship with his only true friend Kat. She completely blows him off and he does no give up. There is a sinister plot brewing and it brings in a rare disease that suddenly peple are falling victim to and they become part of this experiment.
Simon has to go on this quest to rescue his friend and along the way he truly learns that humanity and people are the worst and really fucking evil.
This is a cross between Ready Player One and the movie Gamer with Gerard Butler and Logan Lerman. Such a good book. I give it 4 out of 5 stars and can't wait to pick up the sequel soon. I need to tattoo that on my forehead for every sequel I say that about.
