The Lost & Forgotten Languages of Shanghai Review

This book was really slow to start off with. It was about a Chinese business man who is in an explosion and he gets a brain injury that makes him lose his ability to speak Chinese and instead he goes back to speaking English.

He gets help from an American doctor who is a female and his world gets turned upside down even more because as his English is getting better and getting closer to the doctor, his marriage is crumbling because of the language barrier.

When the doctor's fellowship is up, the wife pleads with the doctor to stay a few more weeks to keep helping her husband and the doctor moves into their home. Eventually, the wife see's the signs that her father in law and even the translator have been pointing out and she leaves a couple times.

The second time the wife leaves, the husband, doctor, and his son go on a trip where they are caught kissing by the little boy and the husband realizes that he has been making a mistake with the whole affair.

The ending for me was disappointing because supposedly the doctor went back to America, and the family stayed together but living two separate lives, and not being able to communicate.

I give this book a 2.5 out of 5 stars. It hooked me in some spots and I couldn't stop thinking of what would come next, but then it got really dull or confusing.

Jack o Latern Time

On Sunday, we made our Jack-o-latern. Cayce got the biggest pumpkin he could find at wal-mart sometime last week, and it was kind of fun to see him struggle to cut it and pull out all the guts and seeds. Samantha called the guts brains. This year, we made our pumpkin look like Mike Wizowski off of Monsters Inc. It looks awesome, and I kept saying Mikee Wizowwskii.. hehe.

Yes, the dude carved the pumpkin in our living room and yes I had to clean up the mess. Made me want to carve him.

Ariana Letter Curriculum: Week 1

We didn't start off that great. She didn't have her workbook to be able to do a page a day on the alphabet and we jumped around. I have to work out a routine along with Samantha's school and when I let Sammy sit in on Ariana's music and read aloud time. But, she had a great week. No meltdowns or tears. On Thursday, Cayce was finally able to pick up the workbook for Ariana, so for most of her school yesterday, we worked on her pages that she missed throughout the week. During the review week, I will be making up her astronaut and art lessons then. Now picture time.

Monday: Music and read aloud

sign language: letter A

Hoping that we have a great week next week and that it will be a little bit better than this 1st week.

Kindergarten: Week 11

This week, we started learning addition, and Ariana also started her letter curriculum. I have decided to let Samantha sit in on the music and read aloud portions once or twice a week. She enjoyed it and sang along with the songs, so that was worth it. She picked up on adding 0 to other numbers easily, and she was proud of her self.

math problems. she got 20 questions right. 20/20 is 100.

her math schedule

she did this whole worksheet by herself beside a few problems that I wrote for her, but she answered them and read them off herself.

One day this week, Cayce took her outside and finally took the tarp off our sandbox for the first time. They buried each other and made sand castles and brought sand into my house.

learning how to add 1 to numbers. This was a little tricky for her because she kept thinking it would be the same as 0 but she is slowly getting it. Hopefully, next week, she will understand the differencr between the 2.

took a trip to the library today with daddy

these were supposed to paint handprint owls, but we have no tempera paint, so the standard hand drawn handprint will suffice.

Next week, we will be starting our Pumpkin unit, and be making our jack-o-latern sometime this week.

Happy Birthday to my Daddy

Today is my daddy's 52nd birthday. He is the best dad in the world. Sure, I am biased, and have to say that, but it's the truth. He has always been there for me and he is the most selfless person I know. He will do anything for the people that is closest to him.

He works so hard and has always been that way since I came along. He is more than a step father to my brother. He is loyal and he is an amazing grandfather. He was there all 3 times I delivered the girls and he came up to see them every day until they got to come home.

He taught me and my brother almost everything we know about fishing and doing roofing work. He taught me to value family and to respect my elders and to never give up on the things that matter most.

haha, we were in Atlanta, Georgia in 2006 for a baseball game and we were watching fireworks going off at 6 flags that was right down the road.

The Lost & Forgotten Languages of Shanghai

This is one of the books Cayce got me last year for Christmas. I am going to start reading it today and hopefully be done with it by Sunday, so I can start on another book and be done with it by Halloween. I am thinking about doing a review on this book, but it just depends on my time. I wanted to start this yesterday but my day was overloaded with the kids school work and housework, I was completely overwhelmed. Wish me luck to be able to finish this in 5 days or less.

October BE GONE!

This is the second October in a row where nothing has gone right for our family. Last year, it was Cayce's car accident and no new car for weeks. Now, It's Cayce is out of work, going on week 5 tomorrow, no money coming in, and bills stacking up. I am fed up with the stress and it is definitely trickling over to the kids because they are getting moody and cranky and misbehaving more than usual.

Today, I started Ariana's letter curriculum. I don't have everything I need for her, so I am going to have to make the best of what I can. I'm hoping that this letter curriculum will also help with her speech, because when she went in for her checkup on Friday, the doctor said she couldn't understand 75% of what Ariana was saying. I really don't want to have to put her into speech therapy, so this 1 year deadline the doctor gave us, I am going use it well.

Samantha has completed 49 days of school. She is having so much fun and everyday I am coming up with things to do units on in the future, like gardening in the spring or Halloween candy science experiments the first week of November.

I know I want October to be done with already, but I am also not ready for November to be here because the first 2 weeks will be grieving time for my entire family. My grandmother and great grandmothers deaths. The end of the years are becoming like a black hole for me. The holidays that officially mark another year in my book, making my babies older. it should be a happy time, and I am dreading the next few months overall.

Kindergarten: Week 10

I was not ready to start this week because I was relaxed from the 3 day weekend we had. Monday was Columbus Day, so I explained it along the lines of Pocahantas. How Columbus discovered the new world and he met the natives just like in the movie. I gave her a coloring page and on Tuesday, she watched 2 videos about Columbus.

On Thursday, we started out 13 day of Halloween unit. I get emails from education.com and we did 2 lessons on Thursday to be caught up, and to also finish the unit on time. She loves the lessons and I will take pictures of everything and do one post about it all during the 1st week of November.
