TAG THURSDAY: Currently Reading Book Tag

It's a late tag Thursday post. Today was super busy with lots of school work for my kids and sending my middle kid off to the beach with my parents for the weekend. I follow Lucy @  Bookworm Blogger and she did this tag a while back, and I thought it would be fun. I will also be doing this tag on my booktube channel at the end or beginning of the year.

1. How many books do you usually read at once?

*My reading has changed this year where I could only focus on one book at a time, now I am reading 2-3 at a time. I read a physical book for my TBR, and a ebook from Netgalley. I also read a middle grade out loud to my kids when it's time during our homeschool days.

2. How do you decide to switch between multiple reads?

   * I wake up early in the mornings to have some time to myself so I either pick up my physical or ebook, whichever one I am thinking about. I read to my kids in the middle of the day, and then I read again for 30-45 minutes after supper and that would be the book I didn't pick up in the morning.

3. Do you ever switch bookmarks partway through a book?

    * NO

4. Where do you keep the books you are currently reading?

    * I stand them up along the back of my desk with my planner and reading journal.

5. what time of day do you read the most?

   * Morning because it's when I have the most time to myself and my kids are still asleep and my husband has left for work.

6. How long do you typically read in one session?

    * I try to read for 35-45 minutes.

7. Do you read hardbacks with the dust jacket off?

    * Most of the time when I remember. It's doesn't really bother me.

8. What position do you mainly use to read?

    * sitting on my couch or desk chair. I used to read in bed all the time, but I am more exhausted with day to day life that if I get comfy, I am gonna KO.

9. Do you take your current read with you everywhere you go?

    * not my physical book but my ebook on my phone yes.

10. How often do you update your goodreads reading progress?

*I update after I get done reading my book for the day. I need to see the percentage and see how far I got left of the book.

I tag everyone who reads this to do this tag. If you do, leave your link to your post or video and I will check it out.

What if a school club changed your life forever?

In the second week of seventh grade, Jason Sloan signs up for the brand-new HAIR Club. He and his friends have no idea what it’s about, but since they’re the first to sign up they figure they’ll be in charge in no time. The club turns out to be super weird: using fancy new equipment donated by a mysterious benefactor, the members are supposed to monitor school security footage. Their first assignment: find out what is stealing the cafeteria’s croutons.

Instead of the expected dark cafeteria, the computers show the club members something else entirely: actual footage of themselves as high school seniors, five years in the future! What on earth could be happening? Is it some kind of time warp, or alternate reality? Or is it just an un-funny prank? As they scramble to solve the mystery, they can’t help but notice something else—none of them like what they see five years from now. Is there any way to change the future—and their fates?

REVIEW: Currently reading with my 12 year old. We are loving it and she has now started calling her little sisters Dweebs.

TOP TEN TUESDAY: Favorite Books of 2021 (so far)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week is a freebie prompt so I am going to be sharing my top ten favorite books of the year so far. I try to at least write one book title down each month that I really enjoyed, even though I don't consider it an all time favorite. I do have reviews of all of these on my blog if you care to read about my thoughts and sheer enjoyment of them.

Review: The House of Hades by Rick Riordan

I have finally read this dang book. I read the third book The Mark of Athena LAST YEAR!! It does not feel like it because I can remember it so vividly. I had high expectations for this one because the cliffhanger had me shook. I needed to know what the hell happened the Percy and Annabeth.

We are following the seven Roman and Greek demigods who are on a quest together to keep the Earth Mother Gaea from rising and letting all of the monsters loose on the world. The kids who didn't have a main test to master in the third book, had their own in this one. Frank had to prove himself to his Roman counterpart father Mars. He also had both of his dad's personalities warring in his head and driving him bonkers.

I have a new ship with Leo and Calypso. I am hoping that Leo somehow makes it back to the island and rescues her. I was so heartbroken about Damasen not believing that he could change his fate. Bob and small Bob were my absolute favorite parts to read. I about shed a tear when he told Percy that he said hello to the stars.

I enjoyed reading about the quest outside of Tartarus, but most of the Percy and Annabeth chapters were really repetitive and boring. They were basically inside a huge monster and it was hell but it was the same thing over and over again. The one thing I am most looking forward to in the Blood of Olympus is Coach hedge reuniting with his family at Camp Half Blood.

I am ready to pick up the fifth and final book in this series. I am not going to wait as long to pick it up.

How Is September Almost Over??// Sunday Post #10

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly from The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

My blog had taken a back seat this month and it has been stressing me out. It's not like I haven't want to post, I have so many drafts that I just don't have the time to dedicate to it. But I do have to say that September has been a hell of a lot better than last month. It's hard to believe that my girls have been in school for a month. The holidays are here. They start for me on September 14th which is mine and my husband's anniversary. We celebrated 14 years together. It's becoming rare for high school sweethearts to stay together. We also have our middle daughter's 11th birthday coming and then my dad's and of course my favorite holiday which is Halloween. Basically all of my planning for October personal life wise is done, now we just have to live the days. My hobbies are just hanging on by a thread.

Yesterday, was National Daughter's day and I just had to share this photo of my sweet girls.

Blog Tour: Welcome to the Dweeb Club

I got more books earlier this month and I will share those in next week's posts as I need to gather them all up from various places in my house because book shelf space is non existent. I will also be doing an unhaul sometime next month. But here are the books I got this week. Two from publishers and 1 I bought myself.

Hope you all have a great last week of September. I don't like rushing months, but I am excited for October and the coming weekend.

Review: Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao

Thanks to NetGalley for sending me the E-ARC of this amazing book. Going into this, I had not read the synopsis, but I ended up reading the first bit where it says Pacific Rim meets The Handmaid's Tale. I am a big fan of The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu. I was ok with the book, but the show is where it's at. I was eager to start reading and see if this did have the same aspects of The Handmaid's Tale and this book did not disappoint. I was hooked from the prologue. Now the Pacific Rim reference I didn't understand because I had never seen the movie. So I ended up getting the movie from my library and watching it with my husband and it was amazing. I understood the machines and the fighting and the mind connections so much more. But I did get a little upset because I started thinking that this book would have made a way better movie than Pacific Rim even though it came out years ago and that made me realize that if this book ever did get picked up, then it would not be a true to story adaptation because it is Pacific Rim on paper.

I started reading this book at the beginning of September and I finished it on the 21st. The day it came out in stores. I was reading the ending and promptly freaking the fuck out over all of the fighting and betrayal and the kick ass-ery and the big reveal, that my husband started searching our local Books-a-Million to see if they had it still in stock and what the price is. He rarely does that and when he does, it is for a book that I am truly engrossed in. Zetian had my heart from the very beginning along with every concubine pilot.

Author of Reese's Book Club YA Pick The Light in Hidden Places, Sharon Cameron, delivers an emotionally gripping and utterly immersive thriller, perfect for fans of Ruta Sepetys's Salt to the Sea.

A historical novel, set in postwar New York City.

In 1946, Eva leaves behind the rubble of Berlin for the streets of New York City, stepping from the fiery aftermath of one war into another, far colder one, where power is more important than principles, and lies are more plentiful than the truth. Eva holds the key to a deadly secret: Project Bluebird -- a horrific experiment of the concentration camps, capable of tipping the balance of world power. Both the Americans and the Soviets want Bluebird, and it is something that neither should ever be allowed to possess.

But Eva hasn't come to America for secrets or power. She hasn't even come for a new life. She has come to America for one thing: justice. And the Nazi that has escaped its net.
