March Wrap Up

March has come and gone and I read 12 books this month. I didn't get to some on my TBR and it's kind of disappointing, but it's all well and good. I am in the middle of reading them now and will be in next month's wrap up definitely.

12. The Lost Symbol: Dan Brown

I enjoyed almost all of these books this month and I am looking forward to reading more next month. I don't think I will get to many though because I will putting most of my focus into the ending of the school year and getting ready for May.

Review: The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

Another Dan Brown book crossed off the list and I enjoyed this one, but it wasn't my favorite. It reminded me way to much of the National Treasure movies that I love. It also felt very repetitive. It once again started out with Robert Langdon getting pulled from his home very last minute and being dragged to another city. This time in Washington D.C.

The story lines were amazing, but I did have some problems with the book. It seemed like all the science terms were being repeated over and over and the two previous books were mentioned briefly, but then in the rest of the story, the author made Robert Langdon seem ignorant and not understand what Peter or Katherine were saying. He didn't believe what Peter was telling him about the freemasons, and yet, he should know that there are things in this world that are so secretive that he knows about. He knows way more about the illuminati in The Vatican City. He learned that the holy grail is in fact a person of Jesus' bloodline. He seemed so dumb and I couldn't handle it. The character of Peter was also very condescending at the end because after everything that had happened, Robert was still non believing of the lost word.

I am ready to read the fourth book, and wait until the fifth book releases in September.

March Book Outlet Haul

I absolutely LOVE Book Outlet. They have the best prices. I found this website of course through BookTube and I have bought a few books from here a couple times last year. It wasn't enough to make a haul post, but this time, I had to get these books. 

I had to get this one because The Sun Is Also A Star was one of my favorite reads, and I had to pick this one up.

Of Course, I had to get something that reminded me of Harry Potter and plus it's a collector's edition.

The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicolas Flamel: Michael Scott

I have always been interested in World War 2 history and facts and non fiction and fictional stories, so this was a must have for me.

As you all know, Cayce and I have a coloring book that we work on together sometimes. Well, I picked up a few more to get us back into the coloring mood and to give us different challenges.

Ever since I read this book last year and loved it, I needed to add it to my book shelf. Unfortunately, I had to buy the movie tie in edition. I don't like Matt Damon, but this story trumps his ugly mug.

The Martian: Andy Weir

These next two boxed sets were so incredibly affordable, I had to get them.

The Mortal Instruments series books 1-5 

This had to be the best purchase of the entire haul. These run close to $100. I got this for 49.99. It made my day when it arrived and it surprised Cayce and it made Samantha's day because I gave them to her. She has them proudly displayed on her chest of drawers until she can read them herself. I will be buying two more for Ariana and Adalyn.

Harry Potter boxed set books 1-7

The last thing that I will be using next year for Samantha's studies is this coloring book right here. I know she will love it and enjoy learning about all the continents.

School Week 31 Photo Diary

We are finally on the home stretch of the school year. This week was a very full one and productive and long. We did have late starts every day this week but they were worth it. We took our time starting and it actually made the days go by quickly for us.

Monday: We had a late start to the day that continued for the rest of the week. They started the day with morning work and then we finished reading The Slippery Slope that took us way to long to finish.

After we finished reading the book, I had to rest my voice because I was starting to lose it. They finished watching season 1 of Blue Planet.

To end the day, I had them each work in their workbooks and do reading time separately for 15 minutes.

Tuesday: To start the day off, I had Ariana finish her workbook page that she didn't finish while Samantha did her reading time. After an hour, they switched.

When they finished with all that, we watched more Magic School Bus, then we discussed and they drew pictures of what they watched.

To end the day, we started reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard from the Harry Potter universe. I have been wanting to get into the wizard fairy tales.

Wednesday: To start the day off, we watched a movie. We had a rough night because Addy had to get a trip to the hospital because she had been battling a stomach bug the past 3 days and it affected every single one of us. The movie we watched was Growing Up Wild on Netflix. It was about 5 wild baby animals growing up.

After the movie, Airy finished some worksheets from last Friday while Sammy did some more workbook pages.

They did reading time together and then we started our Daniel Boone history unit. It was hard finding videos on YouTube about the history of Daniel Boone. All it brought up was the TV show. They enjoyed learning about him and they asked would they be making a Daniel Boone craft. We ended the day with reading more of Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Thursday: We had the latest start of the week today. They did their morning work and then we finished reading Tales of Beedle the Bard. After, they watched three videos on Daniel Boone's history. The then did some Daniel Boone coloring pages because I couldn't find a decent craft. I did have all of this information the summer before we started this school year, but a couple weeks ago, my laptop had to be recovered and all my temp files were lost.

After, I had Sammy finish some workbook pages while Ariana did some reading and then Ariana finished her day with doing some Reading Eggs lessons while Sammy did some reading on her own.

Friday: We were all excited that today was the end of the week and we would be starting our spring break. They had their morning work and then we watched Bill Nye the Science Guy. I finally told them about his new show coming to Netflix, so we are gearing ourselves up for new laughing moments.

To end the day, we read a book of classic tales. It's Dulac's The Snow Queen. We read the obvious, The Snow Queen. I don't recall ever hearing that story growing up, so it was a an enjoyable moment for all of us.
