Review: Stalking Jack the Ripper

The past few years this book has been on my radar. Jack the Ripper is one of those mysteries that grips you and then it gets a little tedious and boring. I read this so I could read Hunting Prince Dracula because I am more interested in that book then the series as a whole.

The book takes place in Victorian era London which is one of my least favorite time periods to read in because of the gender inequality and the dialogue and overall attitudes of women and how they wasted their time doing tea parties and gossiping and stitching hankies for men who obviously didn't give a damn and just took the thing to please the women.

Audrey Rose was kind of a contradictory character. She wanted to break the cycle of women only being a walking womb and not be "fragile" as her sex was deduced to. She is studying autopsies and postmortem bodies under her Uncle. She has this "I can do it" attitude and she doesn't want to be treated like a mindless twit, but yet she constantly reminds us that even though she enjoys the postmortem study, she can also enjoy being a girl and wear beautiful dresses and have her hair done.

I also don't get why everyone loves Thomas Cresswell. I found him to be an egotistical, arrogant pompous asshole who also harassed Audrey Rose.

I may not read the rest of the series after book two because I have heard that the latter books only focus on the relationship between Thomas and Audrey Rose and I could care less.

REVIEW: While reading this, my mind kept going and thinking this would be what the Capitol Hunger Games would have looked like if Katniss didn't kill a certain someone. Also, the reality show parts were Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Pretty Wild inspired. The Greek mythology and pimping out the young goddesses was very disturbing and sickening throughout. The relationship between Ariadne and the minotaur was extremely sad and made me cry. I would definitely love a sequel.
