Review: The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson

My Thoughts: This is my favorite installment of the series. I loved all the investigative angles and all the interactions going on throughout the book. It did lag in places for me and all the descriptions was boring. 

It was kind of exciting that Zalachenko and Salander survived. But it didn't make sense that the hospital staff wasn't notified that they were father and daughter. I knew Blomkvist was going to go super investigative.

The end with the trial had me holding my breath. When I was a teenager, I used to watch courtTV every day after school and reading the trial part was my favorite. I was loving all the developments that happened during the trial. But the end with Blomkvist going to Salander's apartment was just weird. He is supposedly in love with the officer, Monica Z, that was part of the investigation and they were falling for each other. 

I will be reading the 4th book after I read my next Blogging For Books review copy. 

Super Bowl Sriracha Wings

It is Super Bowl SUNDAY!!! I am bringing you a new recipe that I found a few months ago and Cayce loves spicy things. So while we are following along with the game, Cayce is going to be chowing down on these wings. The Atlanta Falcons are going to kick some butt tonight and I have a feeling that these wings will have Cayce's booty hurting...lol.

I gathered all the ingredients and put them together for this good photo. Cayce was surprised by how many ingredients it took.

We started by putting all the seasonings and sauces into a ziploc bag, then adding the chicken. Cayce was having fun shaking and coating the chicken.

Then we had to add flour to the bag and coat it some more. Cayce almost made a terrible mistake and tried to dump all the contents of the bag on the baking pan. Dummy!!

Here they are, spread out evenly and pretty. We had to bake them for half an hour on one side and then flip them. During that 30 minutes, Cayce and Samantha had a battle on Call of Duty.

Looking good, and now time to flip. Here is a little tip, you have to spray the foil again during the flipping or other wise, it will stick.

Going back into the oven for another 30 minutes. Here is another piece of advice, Don't go for the 30 minutes that the recipe calls for, do either 20 or 25 because the chicken will start to burn.

After we got the chicken back in the oven, we started on the glaze. This was fun back as I was adding the ingredients to the pot, it called for 2 TBSP. of sriracha sauce and I added a little bit to much and Cayce's eyes bugged out of his head. It was so funny.

We had to let it thicken over med high heat and then set it aside.

Once the 2nd 30 minutes were up, we had to fight a little to get the chicken off the aluminum foil. We will be spraying it twice next time around. But the meat fell right off the bone and the bones easily came apart so it was easy to say that the chicken was done.

We put the chicken in a large bowl and then poured the glaze on top and Cayce had the honors of coating the chicken.

Then came time to plate. He wanted to add some green onions on top and it makes the wings look damn tasty.

Saturday: The girls had a day out on the town. They had a Home Depot workshop and my Valentine's Day shadow boxes. Addy went for the first time today and had a blast. They then went to an in store event at Toys R Us. It was a Pokemon Sun&Moon event.

School Week 24 Photo Diary

This week was a short week but it felt very long. The hours felt longer than they should have been and it was a very productive week. We are barely catching up with Easy Peasy but we are still rolling with it and the kids love the stories we read and the games they play on that site.

Monday: We started the week off with doing something completely new. I have a stack of HighLights Puzzle Buzz activity books from years ago and it was time for them to get out of the closet and be used. They LOVED all the puzzles and basically worked on half of the book for 2 hours.

After, we started reading book 6 of A Series of Unfortunate Events. This books are so amazing and the girls are loving them and I have already found a 13 book boxed set that I will be buying next Christmas!! They had their own reading hour after we read the first four chapters. To end the day, Ariana worked on Easy Peasy copy work and Samantha worked on some math worksheets.

Tuesday: No School! Dentist Appointments.

Wednesday: It was hard to get back into the routine after having only one day off. They got their morning work done and they completed their highlights puzzle buzz books.

They had their reading time and Easy Peasy lessons separately and then we finished the day with reading chapters 5-7.

Thursday: Addy will be starting Kindergarten next year and so I am slowly getting her involved with the school days with her own work or watching videos with Sam and Airy. She has been wanting to watch more of the Magic School Bus, so that how we started our day. After each episode, we discussed it and they drew what they liked from that episode.

After, they had their reading time together and then I had Samantha work on Reading Eggs Mathseeds while Ariana did 3 pages of Easy Peasy copy work. To end the day, we did more reading of The Ersatz Elevator.

Friday: Today felt like the longest day of all. We have a three day weekend coming up. We have no school on Monday because Miss Adalyn will be turning 5!! They had morning work and then reading time for Sammy while Ariana did her Easy Peasy lessons first. She got through two days worth of lessons.

After that hour, they switched. Samantha actually got three days worth of lessons done today and she did another typing lesson and she is absolutely loving it and wants to do more and more. I will be getting her on the blue laptop this weekend and open her a document and just let her type.

We finished reading The Ersatz Elevator and it was amazing. I want to punch Esme in the face and just shake Jerome and knock some sense into him. Mr. Poe is just a nuisance and aggravating character. Anyways, we ended our day with watching two more episodes of Bill Nye the Science Guy.

We had such a productive week and we are definitely going to have a great and educational weekend. The girls have so many events to go to tomorrow and they are going to have a good day on Monday.

February TBR

This months TBR is a big one. I have two books from last months TBR that I didn't finish. I am almost done with The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest and a review will be up next week. The second book is the next book I am receiving from Blogging For Books and then after that, I will read book 4 of the Millennium series.

I don't believe I will be getting to all these books this month, but I do want to start the Robert Langdon series. If I can finish Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code, I will be good.

I am going to be posting two book related posts next week. A review and a update on the Around the World in 80 books challenge.
