A young adult book about a k-pop romance, sign me the heck up! I have had this book on my TBR since reading The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by this same author and ending up really really loving it. I ended up giving this 3 stars. It has been a couple weeks since I read this and I don't remember exactly why I gave it three stars and when I read back on the synopsis, I can remember what happens and the character names.
We follow a Korean American girl names Jenny who lives in Los Angeles. She is a cellist and one day her mom who is a lawyer gets news that her mother has failing health and she needs to go be with her in Korea. While Jenny gets this news, she is thinking about the mysterious boy that she met in her Uncle's Karaoke bar. They spent a good hour with each other and it definitely made an impresseion on the other.
Jenny convinces her mother to let her come along to Korea and applies to the popular Korea school of arts to help with her cello and to finish her school year. That is when she finds out the identity of the mysterious boy who she met and how famous he really is.
Turns out our boy named Jaewoo is part of a really popular kpop boy band named XOXO. Along the way, Jenny befriends two other members of the group and learns why her roommate is against the idea of getting close.
While reading this, I did keep her grandmother at the forefront of my mind because back in October, I lost my grandmother and when Jenny's grandma has emergency surgery, I started crying like a baby. I did not want to finish this because I didn't want to read about a death. I ended up finishing it and really liked the ending. So much that I have the sequel that follows the roommate and the boy she had a very public breakup with.
