Review: I Am Haunted: Living Life Through The Dead by Zak Bagans

 

I have been waiting 5 years to read thus book. I finally decided to buy my own copy after waiting for my library to eventually get one of there own, which never happened. Then I waited for the price to go down because I was not about to spend over 20 bucks for a paperback copy that was not any sort of special edition or signed. I think the lowest price I ever seen was around 15 dollars and I just decided to get it then. I don't remember much about his first book which I have and read. I do remember the science and technical parts of the equipment they use and basic paranormal science.

This second book goes into the same science and technical talk and he talks more about how is becoming more or a recluse when he is not investigating. How he hates flying and his bodily functions. He also goes into more detail about producing his second documentary that I have seen and really enjoyed, which is Demon House. I wish that there was more detail about his time doing that investigation but this obviously came before the documentary was released. 

I did get annoyed when he would talk about a topic and go on a tangent and go into the science terms and mumbo jumbo. There was also grammatical errors. It did seem like he recorded everything that he wanted to say and then sent it to Kelly Crigger who co-authored and said here, just put this in book format and add some pictures of me looking cool and call it done. 

Some of the pictures included did not connect with the chapters and I wish that he would have added more personal investigation pictures that gave more emotion. 

Review: Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia

 

I have finally read this book a year after receiving it for a blog tour spot. It is October and this was the first book that I put at the very top of my TBR pile for the month. I did not know what to expect. I thought it was going to be a middle grade, but it is more of YA-Adult. It does have adult sexy times.

We follow a woman named Tuesday Mooney from Salem, Massachusetts. She is very goth and she is a high level researcher for a company that throws auctions and raises money for the Boston Hospital. Her job is to "spy" or gather information on rich people and ask them to give their money away. 

On a night that she is working at an auction, one of these rich people, a guy named Vincent Pryce straight up dies. He lives a rather interesting obituary, inviting the people of Boston to come play a game. Very SAW inspired to me. The quest is centered around his love for Edgar Allen Poe. 

Tuesday is the first player in the game who finds the first clue and is the first to get arrested, so she becomes a household name while this game is going. She is also being haunted by her former best friend who was murdered when they were teenagers. 

I give this a 4 out of 5 because I really enjoyed the plot lines of murdered teens, vanishing fathers and a game inspired by one of my favorite poets of all time, Edgar Allen Poe. What I didn't like was the romance that kept being forced and the way Archie was as a person. he couldn't stand up for himself and he wasn't man enough in my opinion. 

I did love Dex who is my favorite character out of all of them. He sings karaoke and does drag. 

Review: The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan *spoilers*

 

I am obsessed with this series. It is more grownup than the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series. This is the third installment in the Heroes of Olympus series. In the first book, we follow Jason, Leo and Piper. Jason is a roman demigod, the son of Jupiter. In the second book, Percy makes a reappearance and we also meet Frank and Hazel. Percy is a Greek demigod, son of Poseidon and he arrives at Camp Jupiter, the Roman camp. 

The book starts off with a civil war between the newly arrived Leo and Piper who are from Camp Half-Blood, the Greek camp. Leo gets possessed by Ediolons and he fires onto the Roman camp. The seven demigods flee aboard a flying ship and they become the seven of current prophecy. 

The book has three separate quests but they all have a main endgame. I was kind of annoyed by how the quest I was reading would end in a cliffhanger and then the next chapter would go to another quest and pick up where it left off. Most of the time, this blended perfectly but the rest I was just so engrossed in the quest I was reading, that I didn't care about the others.

I did tear up at the end when Percy and Annabeth were hanging off the pit and Annabeth told Percy to let her go and he told her never and they fell into the Tartarus pit together.

Review: Cloak of Night by Evelyn Skye

 I read the first book of this duology at the beginning of the year and liked it enough to pick up the sequel. It was very forgettable until I picked up this book to talk about it in my Sequel September TBR video. I thought I was getting things confused because I have read more Asian inspired fantasy books this year that I enjoyed more. 

Right away from the very first chapter I was hooked. I immediately started remembering characters and the plots from the first book. Needless to say, I loved this conclusion a lot. I feel that it wrapped up neatly. Answered every question I had and it made me smile while reading through the cute parts and made me gasp at the plot twists. 

The book starts off following the League of Rogues; Sora, Daemon, Fairy and Broomstick running from Prince Gin and his army of Ryuu warriors. They immediately decided to head back to Kichona because that is the thing that the ryuu wont think they will do. They start looking for Empress Aki and find out things that Prince Gin is doing. 

It also incorporates more of Daemons celestial demigod back story and that what drew me in. Along with the short chapters. It wasn't overly explained. It was straight to the point.
