Top Ten Tuesday: Thankful for My Library

 

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

It is Thanksgiving week and I am excited for Thursday. I am ready to get cooking and grilling. If you have not read my Sunday Post, I mention that grilled turkey is the best thing on Earth besides books. Which is what this post is about. I feel that libraries don't get a lot of love and I have bashed my library system a few times because for hyped books that will only have 1-2 to share between 10 different libraries in my county and the checkout is 3 weeks at a time. 

But in my small little town, I absolutely love my towns library. The librarians in there know me and my family by name. When my holds come in, they make the phone call and it feels like I am talking to a friend.  

So for my list, I am going to be sharing my 10 most recent library books. I am thankful for them because I didn't have to wait for any holds and there was more than 2 in circulation.

Thanksgiving Week// Sunday Post #43

The week that I look forward to all year is finally here. Thanksgiving is my second favorite holiday right after Halloween. I love the anticipation that it brings. My kids look forward to all of the food my husband and I cook. Actually, the grilled turkey is the highlight every year. If you have never had grilled turkey, a whole grilled turkey you don't know what you are missing. It is the most delicious thing on the planet. While cooking, we always watch movies. The past two years it has been Marvel. 

Speaking of Marvel, last week's post was non existent because my family and I went to the drive in to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and when I say I was emotionally dead, I mean it. I expected to cry maybe once or twice, but I was crying in the first 3 minutes with T'Challa's/Chadwick Boseman's funeral and then all the way to damn post credit scene. Black Panther is my absolute favorite superhero of the MCU and this movie just took my heart and stomped on it. 

Question of the week: who is your favorite hero from Marvel or DC? If you don't have a favorite, who is your favorite actor/actress? Mine is Black Panther from Marvel and Batman from DC.

My plans for Monday- Wednesday is to focus mainly on getting as much school work done with my kids and finish projects that they are in the middle of and clean my house and outdoor area. I also want to get through some more books. As of writing this, I just finished my 6th book of the month and it was good. It was about vikings and Norse myths. My review will be up tomorrow. 

It has two more books in the series and I have had this book for 7 years. It came out in 2015 and I finally had enough interest in it because my kids just got done learning about the vikings in the history course. 

The next book I am planning on starting before the end of the day is a book that I got from Netgalley and have had in the back of my mind since it was available as an ARC.

As I am looking at the rest of my November TBR, most of the books I want to read are spooky, so yes I am still in the sppoky book mood. I am not really a big Christmas book reader. I will read middle grade Christmas books to my kids, but myself... not really.

Review: The Violin Conspiracy by Brendan Slocumb

 My Netgalley Review: 

Going into this, I had no expectations. I knew that it was a mystery and that was it. The first part of the book had me wanting to put it down. I just didn't like the tone of Ray and he sounded very naive and juvenile. It had me asking why was there a lawsuit and when I got tired of waiting for the reasoning for it, the second part started. Which has to be my favorite part of the book because it is Ray's teen self of him in high school and wanting to play violin and his mom berating him and the only person who supports his love for music is his grandmother.

There were some issues that I had and couldn't believe that the main characters didn't think of. 

Like, did Ray honestly think his family would be supportive after telling them that the violin was worth 10 million? How did he not think that his money hungry family wouldn't want to sell it.

I don't even understand why the professor told the University in the first place. It was not any of their damn business. She even said that the University would want to profit off it. Not so smart and just plan stupid."

That is like winning the billion dollar powerball and telling everyone surrounding you that you just won and not thinking about the consequences that would follow.

I was constantly annoyed by the constant naming of the music pieces that he played and the terminology and the speeds. I know nothing about classical music and instruments so I didn't care. Also, every white person that Ray encountered was "racist" and had blond hair blue eyes. The constant racism was hard to read especially the amount of times the author used the N word. 

The way he constantly disobeyed the officer who was over his case and did everything she told him not to do was very juvenile and disrespectful. Overall I give this a 3 out of 5 stars and even though I struggled to pick this back up at times to read it, I am looking forward to the author's next book.

Review: My Hero Academia Volume 3 by Kohei Horikoshi *SPOILERS*

 Thanks to my kid constantly bugging me about watching the first season of the show, I am flying through this series... not really but if it was up to me, I would have probably read this next year. I was interested in the story and was really looking forward to this volume but the beginning had me really bored.

It was still focused on the fight scene with the villians and All Might had just arrived. The art style was so messy and jumbled together that I have no idea what the hell was happening. I also couldn't tell the characters apart. 

My favorite part of volume 3 was the U.A. Sports Festival. I loved the trash talk between Class B. Class A was not hesitant because they had already fought villians in the real world. I absolutely loved the introduction to the next event that will be in Volume 4 which is the Calvary Battle. I laughed so hard when Midoriya was given a 10 million point bounty for coming in 1st place during the first event, so now he is the main target for everyone..

I don't have any strong feelings toward any characters. Midoriya is still whiny and annoying. Ida needs to stop trying to being a control freak and comparing himself to his brother. I am highly confused between three characters because they seem like the same people to me, and they are Bakugo from Blass A and the two dudes from Class B.
