Apple Pie Oatmeal

I noticed this recipe on YouTube. I was watching Katytastic Vlogs and she made this oatmeal recipe. I had to make it because one day, that was all we had in the house for breakfast, and the girls love it.

You start with an apple. It can be any size or type, it's up to you.
Peel the apple and cut it up into bite sized pieces. Soften the apples with some boiling water and then add milk and bring it  to a boil.

These are the oats I am using. I am not a fan of oatmeal, but Cayce and the kids are so we buy it. When the milk starts boiling, I put in one cup of oats and stir it and reduce the heat a little and cover it for 5 minutes to let it cook. I don't take the lid off within that 5 minutes.

When the 5 minutes are up, I sprinkle cinnamon into the oatmeal and mix it together and plate it.
I then add a little bit more cinnamon on top and top it all off with some syrup so it's not bland.

And voila!!! Apple Pie Oatmeal!!

The first time I made this for the girls, they wanted me to make more right after they finished their helping and then wanted more that night for supper.

Also, go check out Katytastic Vlogs on youtube... she is flipping hilarious and it's good comedy!

The Man in the High Castle

I had to read this book when I watched the first episode of the Amazon series. I had never heard of this book until I first heard about the show and I am always fascinated with WW2 and Nazi Germany and the Japanese facts. I have been obsessed with learning all about it since we first learned about it in 5th grade. I had never heard of this book until last year.

So as I was saying, I watched the pilot that was free on Amazon and I shouldn't have done that. When I first started reading this book, I was instantly comparing it to the one episode I had watched. Since finishing this book, I am starting to watch the rest of season 1 before season 2 releases later this year and I have to say that I like the show better than this book. It was confusing to me and the jumping around point of views. I couldn't tell if Mr. Baynes was actually someone else. The Marshall from the show is nowhere in this story. Frank gets arrested near the end of the book and it doesn't mention his family getting gassed by the Kempenai.

Basically, this book is about the united states being run by the Nazi's and the Japanese with a neutral zone between them. The character names are the same, but I wished they would have kept to the book order in some way and not skipped around. The book mentions slavery is legal once again but it briefly mentions them and that they should always be there to help the Japanese or the Americans at the drop of a hat.

This tie in edition gives a misinterpretation to the actual novel because no where in this story is Julianna ACTUALLY IN San Francisco. She starts off and eventually goes back to San Francisco in the show. I wish they kept the book the same in the show, but the film reel and the forbidden bibles were a nice change.

I am hoping that next week will be better, but I am having my doubts. There have just not been any freebie signups or request forms coming in and when they do, they either cancel the request because demand was too high or they run out before I can finish the signup process.

School Week 4 Photo Diary

This was our first 6 day school week of the year. That is why this post is being posted tonight, instead of yesterday. It was a long and stressful week.

Monday: It was labor day so we spent all day learning about the holiday and jobs.

We watched youtube videos and they made job hats

Tuesday: We focused on lesson pathways work today. I am going back and forth doing lessons from the kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade sections. It is helping out and more fun for them.

a fun thermometer activity

Wednesday: We did more lesson pathways today and read our library books. They made their own little crowns just like Max in Where the Wild Things Are.

Queen Samantha of the Wild Things

Samantha finished her first coloring page in her book and she started this horse.

Thursday: Today we mostly did Easy Peasy and workbooks, along with quiet time.

Friday: Today was a shopping day for school. They read my shopping list and got the quantities and they also read coupons and prices. No pictures because we focused on shopping and plus we had to hurry home because it was scorching hot and the air quality sucked that day.

Saturday: Today, we started with a trip to the library. They got to play with some kids who were also there and they got a first hand experience in bullying. It wasn't exactly bullying, but there was a little boy bossing them around and taking the stuff they were playing with away from them. Cayce was not happy and I was not happy either. They learned that bullying is not good and that it's not tolerated. No pictures today either.

August Favorite Recipe

This month, the favorite meal that I made that was requested pretty much every day after I made it was Taco Rice Tacos. It was just something that threw together because I didn't want to have regular tacos and I didn't have big burrito tortillas, and I just didn't want to have taco rice by itself.

To start off with, I used 1 pound of lean hamburger meat. That is the only kind of hamburger meat we eat, because we absolutely hate draining grease from regular ground beef, and it makes me sick. I browned the meat and then I added the vegetables.
I dumped the tomatoes along with the juice into the pan and I drained half of the corn juice and added 1/4th cup of water and then mixed in the taco seasoning.

While the mix was boiling, my rice was cooking. I use 3 and 1/4 cups of water and boil that and then add my 1 and 1/2 cups rice and I let it cook for 18 minutes. The rice comes out so moist and fluffy. #DELICIOUS!

When my rice got done, I scooped out 2 spoonfuls at a time and mixed it together. I didn't end up using all the rice, and so that went to another meal the next night.

LOOKS SO DAMN TASTY!

I wanted to make burritos, but the tortillas I had weren't big enough, so we just had it taco style. The girls enjoyed it and they usually eat two tacos each, but that night they had 3 each and there was still more left over for lunch the next day.

My kids will eat anything that is put in front of them. I am not raising picky eaters. I wasn't picky growing up, but there are some things I will not touch.. like pickles, okra, sauerkraut. Cayce won't eat lima beans or butterbeans, but he will eat sauerkraut and pig's feet... gross, I know.

So that is last month's favorite meal. I am wanting to break out my slow cooker this month, and make some beef stew and pork roast with veggies. So, if you liked this post, let me know. I have another recipe that I want to post before next month, that the kids absolutely love and want every single morning for breakfast.. but I am not a breakfast person and I don't cook breakfast unless Cayce is in the kitchen cooking with me.

Hope you all have a good night
XOXO
