The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly from The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Hello everyone. It is hard to believe that it has been a month since my last Sunday Post. August has been eventful. The first two weeks of the month was my wrap up of babysitting the toddlers and I have to say that I have missed them these last two weeks. My daughters and I have picked up little mannerisms from them just to have a giggle every now and then. We also started our new school year and it has been a time. We all came down with food poisoning two days before we started, so the last two weeks we have been dealing with that and it eventually messed up our sinuses and it gave all of us fevers for the third time this year but not Covid. We are finally starting to feel better, just still drained and exhausted.
My reading has been ok. I read Dragonfly in Amber on audio and it took me two weeks because of the illness. I will have my review up of that this week because I have been procrastinating on EVERYTHING! Blogposts, editing my youtube videos from March, even filming again seems like it will never happen. I am also 3 books behind on my Goodreads goal which has never happened before.
I am currently reading Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner and I don't think I made a wise choice in picking it up. I got the book for my birthday last year and have been wanting to read it every month. In June, my husband got some awful news that his aunt has been diagnosed with breast cancer and when I went into this book, I told myself not to think of her because she is doing well. But then tonight( Saturday) as I was reading a chapter, one word made me start bawling my eyes out.
I lost my grandfather to lung cancer back in January 2005. I was 14 years old and I remember the day vividly when my dad came and picked me up after lunch and the teachers just looking so sad and seeing my mom sitting in the car. The thing that made me cry was that the book mentions that she had cases of every flavor of Ensure and I was instantly thrown back to Christmas of 2004 sitting at the table and my grandpa just drinking those things down because it was the only thing he could stomach. You would think that 17 years the pain of losing a family member wouldn't be so raw, but the property that I live on was given to me from him, so everyday I am constantly reminded of him.
I am sorry if my story time causes anybody emotional trauma or horrible feelings. It is not my intention, I just wanted to share that with you and if you are triggered please let me know in the comments.
I am only going to be sharing what books I have gotten this week from publishers and the only blogposts that went up this month were blog tours and some reviews of books that I did finish this month.
I got these three from Kellogg's family rewards. They are once again doing their free book promo where if you buy a participating product, you can choose a book from their catalog to own for your personal library or donate to your local school.
Hope everyone has a great ending to August and begining of September.

Glad that you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteMy granddad used to have Ensure - he had oesophageal cancer.
Those books look good. Nothing like free things!
Have a great rest of the weekend and week

Sorry to hear you had such an emotional week.
ReplyDeleteI think the Kelloggs campaign is a brilliant idea! Wish they would do something like that here in SA...
Have a good week ahead and I hope reading can bring some comfort.

I'm glad you're feeling better. The fight against cancer is tough and emotional. I'm glad your husband's aunt is doing well.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about how hard this month has been. I understand the rawness of your pain surrounding your grandfather. My mom passed away 9 years ago and my dad passed away in 2020. I still miss them every single day.

Oh no that's awful about the food poisoning! Sorry to hear that happened. Not fun. and best wishes / good vibes to your husband's relative as well. Such a devastating thing to hear, for sure, and sending lots of prayers and well wishes.
ReplyDeleteTake care this week!
Glad you are all on the mend from the food poisoning, it sounds like it was terrible. I couldn't read Crying in H Mart either. Hope you have a really nice week!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the food poisoning. And to hear about the cancer diagnosis of your husband’s aunt. Sending lots of love and care your way. Take care and I hope that you have a good week ahead.
