Review: Lore Olympus Volume 2 by Rachel Smythe *SPOILERS*

 

My library FINALLY got their copies of volume 2 of this amazing webtoon series and I am obsessed. I have read the webtoon, but it doesn't count towards my goodreads and the enjoyment just hits different when I have the big ass book in my hands. The colors are way more vibrant and the smooth pages just give me a boost of happiness.

This volume is comprised of episodes 26-49. The book starts off with a late night phone call between Persephone and Hades and their is emotion and crying on Persephone's part. I remember my feelings the first time I read this episode because I was so pissed at Hades for calling her out for being melancholic and probably crying all the time. I would get just as upset as well because if I was melancholic all the time, I wouldn't want it thrown back in my face. Like no shit, I know I am upset.

The scene between Zeus and Hera was funny. Hera was pushing Zeus' buttons and he was trying to scare her and but she was not taking his shit and she keeps on running of at the mouth and being the badass she is. 

I am obsessed with Hecate basically calling Hades out for not being discreet and telling him about Persephone's real age and that they have been pen pals. Hades acts like a creepy teenager himself when he asks to read the letters and wondering if her handwriting is nice. 

Reading about a teenage Persephone is a little grating and cringy at times. Especially when she doesn't know anything about technology or how to set up her voicemail. Demeter never letting her have a phone or do anything remotely social is just inhumane and socially neglectful.

Apollo being a real asshole gave me the creepy crawlies and trying to control her in the car... I wanted to run away as fast as I could. Minthe sending Persephone to Tartarus is bitch level 100. 

I give this 4 out of 5 stars. I got really annoyed with how Persephone just amped up the whiny teenage girl attitude and constantly going my mom this and my mom that. 

Review: The Walking Dead: Descent by Jay Bonansinga

 

I have recently finished the 8th season of The Walking Dead after watching it for almost 3 years. I think the burnout of watching the show and reading the novelizations and the graphic novels just got to be to much. I finished the 8th season and was in the mood to immediately start watching the 9th season. But I figured that I should continue the Woodbury series. 

I have given the first four books in this series a 3-4 stars and they were ok. This one had to be the best one so far in my opinion. I don't know why this one gripped me the way it did but I just did not want to put it down. The governor is finally gone and the Town of Woodbury is slowing becoming a peaceful place to live through the zombie era or end of the world. This book introduces a new villian and his flock. The new characters that were introduced in this are all religious, so there was A LOT of preachin' and raising hallelujah and blessing the Good Dude upstairs. I am not religious. I am agnostic and when I read anything that has heavy religious content, I get super uncomfortable and roll my eyes. I did get a little annoyed with the amount of sermons that was in this but it was part of the character and it just gave him more of that ick feeling. 

I ended up giving this a 4 out of 5 stars and I wanted to go straight into the 6th book. I highly recommend this series if you like The Walking Dead. Especially if you are feeling sad about the show ending and this would tide you over until the spin off shows air. 

Top Ten Tuesday: 12 Series I Have Completed This Year!

 

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl. 

This weeks topic is series that you want to start, catch up on or finish. I have trouble every year of continuing series. I read the first book of a series and then wait months to read the sequel. Series I read, I try to read already completed ones or those that have a good amount of books already out and still being written. 

This year I made a goal to finish some of the series and duologies that I was in the middle of and I have completed 12 so far this year. I am beyond proud that I stuck with it. So here are the series/duologies that I have finished this year...so far. I will be showing the last book of each series to make it easier.

Review: A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson

 My library finally got in several copies of this and I requested it immediately to read before Halloween. I have always been fascinated with Dracula and the story. I read Dracula a couple years ago and was disappointed in how it was boring and a big drag. When this first started getting hyped on Booktube and that it was from one os Dracula's wives, I was immediaitely intrigued. That was the only thing I knew about it going in, until the day before I started reading it. I was watching Kayla from Booksandlala and she was talking about this and said it was a letter format, so that told me it would be 2nd person.

I went into this with that information and there were a few times where I got confused because when Constanta would be talking to her master who is Dracula. He is never named except my lord and master. He saves her from dying and tells her falsehoods that she is the first of his brides and that he is the most powerful and she will not have strength like him. They move around Europe until eventually he brings in another consort, who becomes rival and lover to Constanta. 

There is alot of sexual content in this and mental health issues. Magdalena is constantly in a state of depression that just gets worse and worse. Constanta is not wanting to push the boundaries but after hundreds of years of opression, it gets to be too much.

Sadly, I did not get the horror element that I was looking for. The gore of course constitutes a horror label but it was just not scary for me. I didn't get grossed out or have a jump scare or a creepy cold chill while reading. 

Good Reading Mood + November TBR// Sunday Post #42

 

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly from The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. 

As the title suggests I am in a good reading mood, despite the fact that I have only finished one book so far this month. I made a giant TBR in my reading journal and I am optimistic that I will get through a good bit of them before next month. I feel that I am in a good work routine, and my kids schooling is going great.

If anyone homeschools or teaches and understands the frustrations of learning something completely HORRIBLE, I.E. MATH!! than you understand. I have always hated fractions and teaching fractions SUCK! But luckily all three of my kids are learning it at the same time, so thankfully it is one time and then just constantly practicing.

As you can see, I am still in the spooky mood. I have more on my TBR that are Netgalley. I sadly don't have any nonfiction on my list because I usually make Novembers my time to read a crap ton of nonfiction. I did read a lot of nonfiction at the beginning of the year, so I am not to down about it. If I do get the urge to read a nonfiction, I have the audiobook for David Attenborough's A Life on Our Planet. 

If anyone has read any of these books, please let me know which ones I should prioritize.

Top Ten Tuesday: Villians That Need Lovin!!!!

This weeks topic is unlikeable characters that you can't help but love. I am a lover of villians. I grew up loving Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians and Scar from The Lion King. There are others but it's book villian time

1. President Snow from The Hunger Games.

   

     I like this character so much that I have a pure white cat and his name is President Snow!

2. The Darkling from Shadow and Bone.

   This is just because Ben Barnes plays a damn good Shadow Daddy. Book Darkling can rot.

3. Sebastian Morgenstern from Mortal Instruments

   I had a soft spot for this character and City of Heavenly Fire wrecked me.

4.  Cersei Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire

  She was a bad ass woman who wanted it all dammit!!

5. Snape from Harry Potter

   RIP Alan Rickman AKA Hans Gruber (ifykyk)

6. Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter

  Tom Felton can do no wrong in my eyes, also an amazing musician.

7. Prince Zuko from Avatar the Last Airbender

   Who didn't have a crush on Prince Zuko or was it just the voice actor who got us all??

8.  Queen Levana from the Lunar Chronicles

  I loved Queen Levana's backstory and it really put into perspective of why she was such a horrible person.

9. Jacks from the Caraval series

  I wanted to hate him but he definitely grew on my heart and how he felt when Tella did what she did, it was very heartbreaking.

10. The Grinch from How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

  I am in love with the Jim Carrey version of the Grinch and I watch that movie every year on my birthday which is December 21st. I am slowly loving the Benedict Cumberbatch Grinch. I have to thank my mom for being a literal Grinch every year at Christmas because the only Christmas fun we had in my home was watching Christmas movies particularly The Grinch and A Christmas Story.
