Being the massive Star Wars geek in my family, finding out that there is a timeline for every single Star Wars book that has been written was like the Cave of Wonders for me. I jumped into this rabbit hole and I am excited to get a glimpse of the very beginning. With that being said, I now know that reading every single book will be a task because more and more are being written every year and getting slotted into the timeline. Also with how complex they will be and how long it may take me to read one book.
Case in point, this book is less than 300 pages and it took me over a week to read it. It is not a bad book at all. I enjoyed every character and action scene and plot line. I just kept losing focus and putting it down and when I had down time, I wanted to do other things then read. I am not in a slump, but this was a bitch to get through.
We are introduced to the Jed'aii... (yes this is how it is spelled throughout the book). They are gathered on a planet called Tython where the force is strongest. We follow a Jedi ranger named Lanoree who gets called by the Jedi Temple masters to find a person who has become a threat to the galaxy. It turns out to be someone who Lanoree has believed to be dead for the last nine years.
She goes on a quest to find this person and has to fight along the way. Her backstory of her Jedi journey is also included and it meshes well with her current day. We get introduced to Sith and learn that the Jedi used to have normal swords and knew nothing of lightsabers.
We get an exciting premonition where Lanoree has a vision of a great weapon that uses force and the person who is weilding it wearing a cloak and helmet..... DARTH VADER!!!!!!!!
This book takes place 37,000-25,000 years before Vader even exists.
There are some short stories included at the back of this book. They are a prequel to this and give more backstory of Lanoree which is weird because we get her Jedi journey in this novel.
