Review: Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Book 2 down and 4 more to go. I was hoping to like this one after not liking Cinder so much and I liked this way more. I loved Scarlet and Wolf. I just can't get into Cinder and Prince Kai's characters. They are irritating to me even though they are the major characters in the whole story line.

I thought I had ruined myself by the reading order and I was confused as hell when I read The Queen's Army before starting this book. But then I spoiled myself on tumblr and found out who Wolf actually was. I love Wolf. I like how he was hesitant and shy around Scarlet and he didn't want to be despised by this human girl. He wanted her to not hate him and I was hooked by this relationship, even if it was that insta love that is just BLAH!!!

Captain Thorne was the arrogant character that is such a goof you can't help but like him. I am so glad that Iko is back. She is my favorite by far. I love her little personality chip. She kind of reminds me of C3-PO but more sassy.

I wish the ending ended with Scarlet and not Cinder. I just don't know why I don't like this character. I just not a Cinderella fan and I never will be probably.

School Week 4 Photos

Sorry that this post is late. I am busy getting ready for the weekend. The girls are off to my parent's for the weekend so Cayce and I can celebrate our 10 year anniversary coming up on next Thursday. There were not a lot of pictures this week. I was more focused on helping them with their work and totally forgot about snapping pics.

Monday: Cayce had the day off from work and I had the girls do school. He talked to them about working and all that and then we watched a couple YouTube videos on some facts about Labor Day and the history behind it. Samantha and Ariana also had a writing assignment while Addy worked on her handwriting.

Tuesday: Today was an early start day. Sammy started with her Easy Peasy for an hour and a half. Then she worked on spelling sheets while Ariana worked on her Easy Peasy lessons and Addy started her day with Leapfrog on Netflix.

reading time together

After Sammy and Airy's reading time, I had all three of them watch the first three episodes of the Magic School Bus. Then I had them choose an episode topic that they wanted to learn more about and that was the solar system. I went and found some activities and lesson plans and here are some of the new spelling words that they will be learning.

This is how we ended the day and Addy ended hers with coloring a page of the Earth and Sun and she did very well.

Wednesday: Addy doesn't have her speech lessons anymore and today we had a late start. So we started our day with watching more Planet Earth and discussing it. After, they did their morning work and Sammy and Airy spent most of the day doing their own free write. They love making their own stories and drawing pictures to go along with them. It is helping them learn how to read and spell amazingly.

Today we had read aloud time and re-read Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day.

Thursday: It was another early morning start to the day. Sammy started at 7:55AM after her breakfast. She had to catch up on 2 days worth of Easy Peasy work.

Then it was Airy's turn and while that was going on, Sammy was putting our "space" words into ABC order and writing them in sentences.

Addy did some letters in her Leapfrog workbook and then she watched some episodes of Little Einsteins. That show is getting her to sing along by herself. She won't do that with anyone. She has that shy quality like I had.

Ended the day with history and Addy watching some Mickey Mouse kindergarten videos

Friday: I didn't take many pictures today. We basically watched a couple shows and read today. They started the day off with Planet Earth again. We read some more of The Cricket in Times Square and re-read Alexander one more time before watching the movie adaptation.

It was an OK week, but I want to get back to our week 1 work ethic and routine.

Review: Cinder by Marissa Meyer

I have finally started The Lunar Chronicles. After having the first two books since May of last year, I had to start reading them. Also another reason was Cayce kept asking me when I was going to start them since he got me the first two for Mother's Day.

It took me a while to get into this book. I have never been a huge fan of fairy tales. Growing up, I watched a lot of Disney movies, but I never watched the Princess ones that much. I liked the Pixar ones better than the cartoons. When my kids were born, we got them into Disney and I made sure to include the princesses.

Now to say this, It had some Cinderella qualities and that's it. While I was reading it, I was ok. But then when I put it down, I did not pick it back up for days. I had to schedule a day to myself to just sit and read it or I would not have made time for it. The only character I liked was Iko.

I found that Marissa Meyer constantly repeated descriptions of how the character was acting or feeling. The constant pulling up of the glove, or the clenching the fists and my nails making half moons into my skin. I read those two sentences more than 3-4 times on different pages. We get it, that's their ticks, but build these characters and don't keep them at the same mindset or half moons in skin or pulling your glove.

I am ok with this first book. I also read three of the stories from Stars Above. I will be posting the reading order that I am following and then I will be posting a review of Stars Above after I finish Winter.
