This series has tied The Hunger Games for being my favorite series. But I don't feel that pull to know more. It ended so amazingly. I ship Ruby and Liam along with Vida and Chubbs. Liam is now one of my book boyfriends along with Cole and I just want to be best friends with Chubbs and Zu. I can't wait to read the novella bind up. This is the first book that made my cry multiple times. Of course, I cried during Mockingjay but this one ground up the feelings and spit them in my face.
We start off the book with Ruby still agonizing over Jude's death and placing all the blame on Nico. She basically shuns him and it seems Vida is the only one on his side. Clancy is still prisoner and Cate is still missing. They have to find a way to safely evacuate Los Angeles, and head to The Ranch which was a HQ Jr.
On their way to the ranch, they start learning about all the symbols and letters on the road signs and learn that it was Clancy's idea for the tribes that asked permission to leave. It was a way to find safe passage. Ruby sees the letters K, H and Z. She goes off route trailing the code and finally finds ZU. This was the first part to make me cry. I loved Zu's character from the very beginning. They find Cate and the other missing agents at the ranch and then they realize that Ruby has been hiding a huge secret about the other agents.
Eventually we have a senator, a reporter and the First Lady of the US appear to help the group. Ruby gets captured and returns to Thurmond. Cole tragically gets murdered. Grams finally gets introduced and the parents reappear. And my favorite part of all that tied it with The Hunger Games was a SEX SCENE!!!! More like a mention of a sex act. I cheered and was happy for this couple.
My second favorite part was Zu's interview with the reporter. Read the book and you will figure out why.
If you have not read this series, I HIGHLY recommend that you do. It was make you smile, laugh, anxious, and cry both ugly and happy.
