The fourth play out of six of Oscar Wilde plays I am listening to, and I have made the connection that all of these play are connected in some sort of way. The characters are different, but in the previous play there was a line said that mentioned An Ideal Husband. In another play there was the line a woman of importance.
I did get a little confused while reading and listening to this because there were two characters that were so similar to two other characters in A Woman of No Importance. The character was a wife and her husband was Sir John and it was like the same people but they weren't. The wife basically had her husband on a leash and was telling everyone that he had to be watched and asking where was he throughout the whole play.
The audiobook for this did mar my enjoyment of the story because I was reading along with it and the audiobook cut out sections of dialogue that I feel cut out some sub plots. So as far as I know, an ideal husband takes demands and job advice from his wife.
This book is basically about blackmail and I would have enjoyed it more it the audiobook didn't mince the play.
I also feel that the play ended abruptly. Lord Chiltern was getting blackmailed and then poof, he is no longer in danger. We don't hear about Mrs Chevely again.
This is the first 3 star that I am giving to an Oscar Wilde work.
