Kindergarten: Week 17

I can't believe the first week of December is over. I have a feeling that this month will fly by for us. We started spelling this month and will continue till the end of the school year and will keep it up during the summer. I started her out with 6 words this week.

I know I said we wouldn't be doing another puzzle for a while unless she asked, and well, SHE ASKED. She chose the one she wanted to do and she has gotten farther on it than the last one on the first week.

On Tuesday, I started reading another chapter book outloud. The book was intended for Ariana's school because I forgot to request her books from the library, so we started a book that I read when I was in 5th grade. It's called Bunnies in the Bathroom. I loved all the animal ark books and everytime there was a book club or book fair, I would seek those books out.

I didn't take many pictures on Tuesday because of the new read aloud.

On Wednesday, I gave her 30 minutes on her own with spelling. She had her bottle caps and she had to spell each word with the caps and say the letter out loud and also try to say it and sound out the letters.

Her quiet time. This is always 40 minutes. I give her 40 minutes to look at magazines or our books and then we talk about it and she points out letters or numbers. 

On Thursday, we started school earlier than usual, and we still finished around the time we always do. So it was an early but LONG day. I decided to try something new with her spelling today. I remember when I was in first grade, my teacher would sometimes let us play in shaving cream. So, I took Cayce's shaving cream and let her play in it. She had to spell her words and I gave her 15 minutes with that. When those 15 minutes were up, I opened up the new finger paint that I got, and gave her a piece of my printer paper, and she has to write the words with the paint. I gave her 15 minutes on that as well. She had some fun and can't wait to do it again. It was a great day in general because it was 80th day of school. Samantha knows that there were 20 days left until the 100th day party and that we have 100 days left of school to do and if she does well, she will be going to 1st grade.

On Friday, she started the day off with helping Cayce fix and organize the pantry for our food. She helped take cans and everything off the shelves and help put the little can organizers up on the shelves. It took and hour an a half for her to do her life skills along with helping. She was organizing cans and sorting the by size and everything by shape. It was awesome that she did it on her own and I didn't ask.

With her Easy Peasy curriculum that we do everyday, we ended up doing days 96-99 because there wasn't much to do on those days and it was basically reviewing letters M, N, and O. We didn't read today because she was wore out from the beginning. We talked about spelling and I am contemplating on testing them with her, but I don't know.
