We meet Micah's parents in this one. Finally we get to meet one of Anita's main sweeties parentals. Micah hasn't seen his family in years to protect them from Chimera, who was the bad leader who was a panwere and could change into any animal. Michah's mom contacts Anita while she is at work and tells her that Micah's father is dying from a zombie disease and is rotting from the inside out. Anita lets Micah know and he instantly changes personalities and becomes subdued and angry.
So they have to talk to Jean-Claude and let him know that they have to enter another territory and Jean-Claude insists on bodyguards, two for each. Micah is nervous because he doesn't know how his family will re-act to him being with Anita and Nathaniel and he wants to be truthful and introduce both of them as his lovers. I loved the meeting between the family and the threesome, because the family has something going on very much the same.
While Anita is there to be support for Micah, she goes full on into Federal Marshal mode and starts working a case. She is liked very quickly by Micah's dad work buddies because he is the local sheriff.
There are a lot of things going on in this story. The one thing that was confusing was all the marriage talk. It is all one big "poly" plot. Jean-Claude proposed after Micah proposed to both Anita and Nathaniel, but Anita would have to legally marry Jean-Claude because he is the vampire king. That don't have shit to do with it, I think she should legally marry who she chooses and then have a civil ceremony with who ever else. I just can't wait to see if she will include Richard's reaction to all the wedding planning going on and if he will throw another temper tantrum like a 3 year old.
